The final push for the midterms is being fueled by a massive cash injection from one of America’s wealthiest individuals. According to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening, Elon Musk’s America PAC moved more than $76 million into the group during the first two weeks of October. This capital is intended to support Republican candidates as the election enters its decisive phase.
The financial flow has been rapid, with the organization spending nearly $43 million in that same two-week window. Despite the heavy outlay, the committee entered the final stretch of the campaign holding a cash reserve of approximately $47 million. This liquidity ensures they can maintain pressure on key battlegrounds right up to election day.
The Texas Senate race became the primary destination for this new capital, absorbing $15.2 million in the reporting period. This amount is double what the committee spent in that state throughout the summer. The breakdown shows $12.4 million directed toward attacking Democratic candidate James Talarico, while $2.8 million was used to promote Republican Ken Paxton. Subsequent daily filings indicate an additional $9.1 million was spent against Talarico, bringing total spending against him to nearly $28 million for the cycle.
This figure represents about 40 percent of all money the PAC has deployed to support or oppose candidates this year. The committee also shifted its strategic focus toward digital channels, spending $11.4 million on online ads in the two-week period. This digital spend is nearly equal to the combined total for mail and texting campaigns, signaling a pivot to reach voters through their screens.
In the broader context of the election, Musk has now contributed more than $445 million to Republican political groups, solidifying his position as the largest known individual donor in the midterms. Since July, more than $165 million of that total has flowed specifically to America PAC. The billionaire has also been active on social media, posting claims about Talarico’s fitness for office and amplifying a previously false claim about his medical history. Talarico responded by criticizing a system that allows a trillionaire to effectively buy a Senate seat.
Current polling suggests the Texas race remains tight. An Emerson College poll conducted from October 17 to 19 found Talarico leading by two points, a margin within the error rate. The stakes for Musk extend beyond a single state. If Democrats take control of the House, committee leaders have signaled plans to investigate his role in the Department of Government Efficiency and his companies’ federal contracts. Lawmakers have also targeted SpaceX’s Starshield service in Ukraine, promising to scrutinize the federal funding awarded to his businesses in the next Congress.
